If you need to make movements outside of Z Mode, it may help you to hold R to zoom out the camera fully beforehand. The more zoomed in the map camera is, the slower your cursor in relation to the map will be. Prepare to mash it for the first two minutes of the run. Not holding it, not pressing any other button, just the A button. Text boxes can only be advanced by pressing the A button.
This will be your primary means of moving units. I will also use the term Z Mode to refer to pressing Z to open the game's Icon Mode during a mission. I personally find it easier to memorize inputs rather than specific directions, especially in the more complicated menus. Throughout this guide, I will refer to a lot of button inputs, particularly in the team setup menus.
